History/Background Information: A scarce 1/2 Pond struck for the ZAR in the year 1896. Short lived series issued between 1892 and 1897. Struck to the same specifications as the British Half Sovereign.
Certification: NGC MS61 (Choice Mint State)
Condition Notes: A superb coin in highly coveted mint state condition. The first that I have handled and one of the most attractive half ponde that I've seen. Soaked in lustre, superbly struck with bold definition and a striking yellow-gold colour. A mere 14 coins have achieved mint state (same grading figures as the 1892 Single Shaft Pond) reflecting the scarcity of this coin in top condition.
Mintage: 103 600
POP Statistics: 9 in MS61 with only 5 coins better (NGC Stats)
